For the latter category, Wichita, Kansas-based company Kingdom Tiny Homes has come up with an ingenious setup that redefines the idea of tiny living. Their latest creation is the "L Combo," a unique micro-living layout that combines two tiny homes on wheels and unites them through a generous deck. It’s really a great layout that doubles the available square footage and even adds plenty of outdoor living space, but it’s only suitable for those who want to downsize but are not really interested in the mobility aspect, as the addition of a deck makes the setup stationary.

For this offering, Kingdom Tiny Homes used two of their tiny dwellings - the Simplicity and the Master Suite. These units, along with the deck area, offer 700 square feet (65 square meters) of indoor and outdoor living space. Compared to buying just one tiny home, the setup brings a lot of perks, including the fact that you have two bathrooms, two bedrooms, and a kitchen. One of the units can even be used as a home office space if needed, offering a quiet, separate space that will allow you to focus on your work without distractions.

Then, there is the cost advantage. Combined, the two tiny houses on wheels plus the deck space would cost approximately $125,000 ($110,000 for the homes and $15,000 for the decking). If you’re following the tiny home market, you probably know there are high-end tiny dwellings that sell for just as much, but in this case you get two units that offer comfort and privacy and the possibility to extend the living space to the outside.

Both tiny housescomprised in the L Combo are based on custom built and engineered trailers and have painted LP lap siding matched with standing seam metal roofs. They also come with shiplap interior walls, full-light foors, and plenty of energy-saving vinyl windows that keep the interior well-lit and bright.

The Simplicity unit boasts a functional design comprising a kitchen, a living/sleeping area, a bathroom, and a storage loft. Since the focus here is on functionality, the small kitchen is equipped with a large sink, a two-burner stove top, a microwave with an air fryer, and a fridge. Shaker style kitchen cabinets offer enough space to store cooking essentials, while the butcher block countertop offers plenty of work space.

The spacious living area provides enough room for a sofa sleeper or even a standard bed and a small table and chairs for dining. A full-height closet provides storage space for clothes and other items.

The Master Suite, on the other hand, is the space that makes the setup a highly versatile one. The company also calls it a Flex unit since future owners can customize it as they see fit. It can be used as a home office, an extraliving space, or even a pool house. It’s also worth mentioning that the two units are not connected, which could be a perk for those who want two separate living spaces for increased privacy, but also a downside for those who would like a unified living space.

A sliding screen door leads inside the second unit, which lacks a kitchen, thus offering more room for living. It comes furnished with a couch that can turn into a queen-zise bed at the press of a button, and the owner is free to use the rest of the space for whatever they need.

Both units have bathrooms with vanities, large sinks, and standard toilets, separated through pocket doors. The bathroom in the Simplicity tiny home also has a shower. The storage lofts in the two units add to the practicality of the setup.

The two units are positioned in an L shape, hence the name of the setup, and connected through a 20 x 20 ft (6x6 m) Trex deck surrounded by steps. Owners can furnish it with cozy outdoor furniture to extend the living space and create a perfect environment for family gatherings or outdoor parties with friends. It’s a great spot for taking in a breath of fresh air during the workday.

All in all, the L Combo setup opens up plenty of possibilities and is perfect for people who value their privacy. You can use it for permanent living, turn it into a vacation rental, use it as separate home for your college kids, set up a work-from-home office, and so on. You could even install a hot tub on the deck if you want to. The possibilities are endless. And besides the price advantage compared to buying just one tiny house, the L Combo provides more space, more flexibility, and more opportunities to enjoy your surroundings.
