How to Make Spinach Lasagna Rolls:

My kids loved this fun twist on traditional lasagna. These easy lasagna rolls make it look like you’ve spent all day making a delicious meal in the kitchen, but they can be made in minutes!

These Spinach Lasagna Rolls are made without meat, but if you wanted to brown some Italian sausage, ground beef or ground turkey to add in with the marinara you totally could.

I was a little bit worried about my kids trying to pick out all of the spinach, but they didn’t bat an eye at it!

With all the cheesy, saucy goodness of these lasagna roll-ups, you won’t hear any whining at the dinner table.

    My family loves this!!

  5. dian says:

If you prepare this to freeze (plan on cooking in the oven at a future date), and add ground meat - should i cook the meat before rolling up?

  6. Cyd says:

For sure cook the ground meat before rolling up and freezing.

  7. Holly says:

Have you frozen these before? Any tips? Do they turn out well after being frozen?

  8. Cyd says:

We think you could make these all the way, then freeze them. Thaw and reheat. It should work. (But we really have never used this recipe as a freezer meal.) Just looking over the ingredients, a lot of these same items are in some of our other freezer meals. Best of luck to you. :)

  9. Rose says:

I make a version of this all the time, but it never makes it to the freezer! I make it with pancetta in the filling. Giada DeLaurentis has a similar recipe. It's so good, there's no way it could be weight watchers!

  10. Misty says:

How do you roll up dry noodles? Wouldn't they just break?

  11. Cyd says:

They are cooked, just dry off any liquid remaining on them. They are still very bendable and flexible to work with.

  12. Cyndi says:

Do you think you can use fresh spinach and freeze it? I have a bag to use up.

  13. Cyd says:

    Should work just fine!

  14. Ann Davidson says:

Could be wrong, but I've heard you should blanch spinach before freezing/baking....??? It's not hard, just an extra step.

  15. Anna (A Sensible Momma) says:

Looks and sounds delicious! Thanks for sharing!

  16. Chelsea Reiser says:

I cooked it earlier today, and just want to reheat. How would you reheat? Oven? How long? What temp?

  17. Cyd says:

You can reheat at 350. Be sure to cover since they have already been cooked. You'll want to cook until heated through. We have often reheated leftovers in the microwave.

  18. Julieanne Parker says:

Do you use a whole lasagna noodle strip for each one?

  19. Cyd says:

Yes, a whole noodle strip for each roll.

FAQs

How do you make spinach lasagna less watery? ›

She also suggests raising your oven temperature a bit and using a thickening agent in your sauce. So either add more meat OR more tomato paste, if your lasagna is meatless. (And no, foregoing that first layer of sauce at the bottom isn't necessary.)

Do you bake lasagna at 350 or 375? ›

Method
  1. Preheat oven to 375°.
  2. In a 13 x 9 inch baking dish, pour in one ladle of sauce.
  3. Lay the oven-ready lasagna sheets on top of the sauce to form the first layer.
  4. Add more sauce, thin slices of fresh mozzarella and chopped basil.
  5. Repeat for 4 layers.

How do you make lasagna not soggy? ›

The best way is to keep your ingredients dry. Cook your pasta sauce long enough to boil out most of the moisture so the sauce is thick.

How to keep veggie lasagna from being watery? ›

Cook your vegetables separately.

It's also important not to overload you vegetable lasagna. Having a proper amount of vegetables will help the lasagna maintain its shape, and will keep everything moist, but not watery. As you're creating layers, don't worry if it looks more sparse than you'd think.

How to make lasagna more moist? ›

If you want to make sure your lasagna turns out perfectly, don't forget to let it sit at room temperature for about an hour before popping it in the oven. This will prevent it from drying out and ensure that it cooks evenly.

Is 2 layers of noodles enough for lasagna? ›

In a medium bowl, stir together the ricotta, beaten eggs, 1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese, remaining 1 teaspoon of salt, olive oil, and minced parsley in a large bowl. Count your noodles. You will need four layers of noodles total.

What goes first on the bottom of lasagna? ›

Start by spreading a layer of your tomato-based sauce (either a plain tomato sauce or your pre-made ragù) on the bottom of your dish. Next, add a single layer of pasta sheets. Then, add a layer of white sauce, followed by another single layer of pasta sheets.

Do no-boil lasagna noodles really work? ›

No-boil sheets don't suck up as much water as regular dried lasagna noodles would since they're par-cooked, but they still need significantly more liquid and time. If I'm making lasagna, I don't also want to do math and potentially wait an extra hour for my dinner to be ready, so no-boil sheets are out for me.

How many servings of lasagna are in a 9x13 pan? ›

As a general rule of thumb, one 13x9 pan will yield 8 medium-sized portions. You can adjust the serving sizes to your family's appetite: if they have larger appetites, you cut the pan into 6 large portions, and if they have smaller appetites, you can cut the pan into 10 smaller portions.

Do you bake lasagna covered with foil or uncovered? ›

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes. Remove the foil and bake until cheese is golden brown, 5 to 10 more minutes. Remove from the oven and let stand for 10 minutes before cutting and serving.

Is it better to bake or convection bake lasagna? ›

I prefer to cook this lasagna on convection bake since it is prepared in a very tall pan. It cooks more evenly.

Why is my spinach lasagna watery? ›

Fresh spinach releases a lot of water as it cooks, which can result in a soggy lasagna. That's why you'll want to sauté the spinach until it just wilts, which prevents it from releasing too much liquid too quickly.

How many layers should lasagna have? ›

The correct way to compose lasagna is: ragù sauce on the base, then: lasagna pasta, besciamella sauce, ragù sauce, grated parmesan cheese for each layer, tipically 4 or 5 layers, no more because it will get difficult to bake and the pasta will not be completely cooked in the middle layers.

How do you layer lasagna so it doesn't fall apart? ›

In a 9x13-inch (23x33 cm) glass baking dish, add a layer of bolognese to the bottom. Top with noodles, then spread a layer of the ricotta mixture on top. Repeat with another layer of bolognese, noodles, ricotta, noodles, bolognese, then top with mozzarella and additional Parmesan.

How do you make spinach less watery? ›

Once hot, add the butter and/or oil. It should melt and/or heat immediately. Quickly add the spinach and cook, stirring, until the spinach is wilted. The high heat and stirring will help any liquid the spinach releases evaporate quickly, which is what you want to avoid wet or slimy spinach when all is said and done.

How do you dry soggy spinach? ›

An easy way to dry it is to place the spinach (in batches) in a potato ricer and squeeze until dry. You won't have wet countertops or dirty kitchen towels trying to squeeze out all the liquid.

How do you add moisture to lasagna? ›

You can prevent lasagna from becoming dry while baking it by undercooking the noodles, adding sauce or cheese sauce to the top layer, using a béchamel sauce or a creamy meat ragú, avoiding ricotta cheese or beating it with egg and herbs, and covering the lasagna with foil while baking it.
