As much as I enjoy the carefree summer months,I am so looking forward to the coolerfall weather.

To welcome in this newseason, we decided to put together a pumpkin pie-scented playdough activity for the kids.

Read on for our easy playdough recipe and the fun goodies we included in our invitation to play.

What You’ll Need

Making the Pumpkin Pie Playdough

Begin by making a batch or two (we typically make one batch per child) of our one-pot playdough.

This is our tried and true recipe that is super easy to make.

Or, make our no-cook playdough using a stand mixer – SO EASY!!

While you’re mixing in the dry ingredients, simply add one teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice per batch.

However, if you’re not up to making homemade playdough this time around, store-bought playdough will work just fine too (although it won’t have that yummy pumpkin pie spice scent of homemade playdough).

After you’ve made your playdough, allow it to cool for a few minutes, and then carefully plop it onto a sheet of parchment paper. Allow it to cool for several more minutes. While it cools, you can take out the additional supplies needed for the activity and place them in your divided tray.

Once your playdough has cooled enough to handle, simply make a bit of an indentation in your playdough, add some food coloring in the middle of your playdough, and fold your playdough over and over until the coloring has been incorporated.

We typically wear disposable gloves while coloring playdough, just to keep our hands from coming out rainbow-colored, but if you don’t have any on hand, you could always place the playdough (along with the food coloring that you’ve just added) on a piece of plastic wrap and use the plastic wrap as a sort of shield while you fold the food coloring into the playdough.

We split our batch in half leaving one half the natural color and colored the other half orange.

Once your playdough has been colored, place it into your divided tray, along with the other materials, and invite your child to play.

This is such a wonderful playdough. So squishy and soft! And we absolutely love the pumpkin pie spice – what a great way to welcome fall.

We all had a blast with this pumpkin pie-themed playdough activity.

We made our own mini pumpkin pies (while Miss 16 months kept nibbling on playdough – apparently the playdough smelled a little too similar to pumpkin pie and she couldn’t resist trying it) and enjoyed decorating them too.

While I wouldn’t suggest eating the playdough, it is taste safe, and small quantities shouldn’t cause issues, assuming there aren’t any food allergies.

We had so much fun cutting the playdough pie crust with our pastry wheel cutter. Such a great investment!

Even the baby enjoyed squishing her playdough into her pie pan and pressing stones and leaves on top.
